Lack of progress?

After assembling the tow bar, I went to attach the brackets to the front bumper and found that the "metal" under the plastic bumper cover, was nearly non existant, rusted nearly completely away, so now looking for a replacement bumper in decent shape or a custom new one, which was on the wish list for some time in the future, but I wasn't looking to spend that much at this time.....

I'll stop by a local welding shop here in Cleveland, and get an estimate for what I need and take it from there, I've found some on line for $400 - $900 and considering the Tracker was basiclly the cost of a van I was going to scrap.... I guess I can afford to spend some money on it...  but hoping the local shop can do it for under $200

  1. I stopped at E & K Products in Cleveland, where I bought some Channel make a bumper from and a 1/4" thick plate 10" x 24" that eventually a winch will be bolted to.

Now just a matter of one of my brothers stopping by with their welders at attaching it for me...

  2. closer inspection and more thought.... maybe quicker/cheaper/faster, to cut and bolt some steel plate to the frame, sticking down and out enough to weld the a 36" piece of Channel to it, drill holes and bolt the tow bar brackets on.... I'll cut some cardboard templates tomorrow and have the steel plate cut for it on monday out of the 1/4" plate that I already have.. two, 5" x 12" pieces to go on the out side of the frame.... one hole already in the frame, so I'll only need to drill through the plates and one other hole through the frame on each side.
